Paper Proposal

For project 3 I will be working alone and creating a collage based on project 2. In project 2 I researched Soma Sara as a woman in red, and with this collage, I have decided to focus on Soma’s message in her work. In other words, I would like to delve deeper into Soma’s hardships, her hard work, her experiences, and to emphasize how important it is that people understand her story and see how powerful her work is.

Soma Sara’s message is important to understand because it addresses critical issues related to gender equality, sexual harassment, and the broader societal norms that perpetuate these problems. She is the founder of the “Everyone’s Invited” movement, which aims to provide a platform for survivors of sexual harassment and abuse to share their stories anonymously.

One of the reasons why I chose to create a photo collage to convey her story is because of the visual impact it will have. Images can have a powerful emotional impact and can effectively convey complex messages. By leveraging the power of visual storytelling, a photo collage can capture the essence of her message, and the experiences of survivors in a way that immediately resonates with its viewers.

I think that the change in medium from an essay to a photo collage is going to represent Soma Sara very well. By focusing more on Soma’s message, it not only highlights the core of her advocacy but also underscores the crucial importance of her visibility and acknowledgement not only on Wikipedia but as a whole. With her story, she focuses on the urgent need to address sexual harassment and creating a supportive platform for survivors, while also highlighting how being seen and recognized can amplify her impact and drive systematic change. This approach not only honors her efforts but also underscores the vital role of visibility in advocating for justice and equality.

In order to effectively convey Soma’s message, I plan on finding powerful photos, illustrations, and visual representations such as images of protects, symbols, and art representing emotions and societal issues. I also will be looking for quotes or impactful statements/slogans to add context and depth to the collage. One of the challenges I anticipate is going to be finding relevant visuals, as I don’t want this collage to only be surface level and lack depth. My end goal above all is to ensure that I capture the significance of Soma’s story.
