For the creative project remix, I chose to do a collage of photos on the Women in Red I researched for Project 2. One of the issues as to why women face bias in Wikipedia coverage is because they aren’t ‘notable’ enough. The collage was meant to capture one of Fatima Servin’s most notable accomplishments as a professional Football player. I would accomplish this by searching the web for images that may be worthy enough for Servin to get the respect that she needs. Through this strategy, I hoped that the audience would catch on to the meaning that Fatima Servin is important to be recognized, especially since she won a tournament for her country, Mexico at the U-20 level. Moreover, I also hoped to achieve a goal that women should feel empowered through their goals.
When choosing the medium, I was thinking at first doing a presentation on her but scrapped it off as I believe that when it comes to delivering a message, the audience must discern it from the media they’re seeing rather than spoonfeeding it. It’s why I decided to go for a collage of photos of Servin’s accomplishments. It’s worth noting that it may be hard to unravel the message behind the collage as it’s more like a poster, however, that is the reason why I chose a collage because it would allow the audience to unravel any possible meanings for the photos that are put in place.
When it came to making the media, the software was relatively easy to use, however, when it came time to put all the photos in place, it required thinking on how am I going to present it. Since Servin didn’t have many photos, this made the process harder. That’s why the photos that I believe were most important were bigger than others such as her kissing the trophy or a farewell message to the first football club that took her in. Photos like these were meant to showcase the type of character Servin is. Aside from that, I didn’t have any issues with whether I was allowed to use certain types of photos or not.
This project was done to upload it on Blogs@Baruch, however, it would be great to introduce it to other groups as not only would they be learning about a particular player but also captivating their attention into doing more research on professional female players. In a way, it brings more awareness towards women’s football which is something I’m looking forward to.
