BARUCH EMET EVENT
10/17/13
Revekka Plotinskaya
Every single Thursday at 5pm sharp there are EMET meetings. This an organization that focuses on telling the truths of life and death. The events that are held by Rabbis through the Hillel Organization in Baruch. Rabbi’s are doing teachings during the two hours every week which eventually can lead to a trip to Israel hosted by EMET — if you attend them all. These teachings are all about the Jewish Faith and revealing the truth. The meetings are very laid back and welcome you in with open arms. At first, it is very intimidating when one isn’t extremely religious but the Rabbi’s are dedicated to clear up any misconceptions regarding the religion. During the meeting on October 17, there was a discussion regarding sexual, mental, spiritual and emotional health.
These misconceptions that Jews only engage in sex to reproduce and that they are are stiffs in regards to anything liberal. The group was taught that you need to have clarity in your mind before you can engage with another person. That you should be your own ball of energy before you connect with another ball of energy. Then only when both of you are a complete version of yourself you should engage with another human being. The real surprising thing that was taught was that Jews refer to sex and the orgasms as the most divine pleasure. It was incredible to realize that because of the rumored ideas of Judaism. They had taught the importance of doing healthy activities and organizing your mind as well as being independent of anyone. It was truly incredible — a realization that judaism is actually about peace in your mind, body an soul and divine spiritualism — when you reconnect with god. It was refreshing and open.
The entire event was a participant-lead conversation with the Rabbi’s where people have come to learn about Judaism. I found it really shocking that over 30 people attend these meetings weekly and are so interested in this. It is believed that religion is very “out” right now among young people. The Rabbi’s serve as a third party to talk to and resolve issues. They have clear straight forward ideas. Even if you aren’t Jewish, these meetings are informatory and accept all people who are interested in Judaism.
