Schedule updates

Next class (Monday, March 12), we will be welcoming guest speaker Ed Kashi.

Final cuts of your first videos will be due by midnight Wednesday, March 14. We will devote class that day to editing/production.

The following Monday, March 19, please bring your cameras in for our in-class audio workshop. We will practice using the lavalier mics and Tascams as we gear up for your second major video assignment of the semester.

Pitches will be due Wednesday March 21 for assignment #2, a three-to-four-minute doc.

Here’s some of Ed’s work so you can be prepared to ask him questions on Monday:

https://edkashi.com/project/hidden-indian-sun-2017/  This film is part of an ongoing project, now in its 5th year, looking at CKDu, a global health epidemic. Ed collaborated on this with a filmmaker, Tom Laffay, and is an example of personal work that is also advocacy work.
https://edkashi.com/project/hijabi-world-2016/  This film is part of an ongoing project called Newest Americans, a collaboration between VII Photo, Talking Eyes Media and Rutgers University Newark, that revolves around the issue of immigration.
https://edkashi.com/project/notes-homeland-2015/  This film is also a part of Newest Americans and an example of multimedia which involves Ed’s extensive stills archive from Syria, new footage shot, archival materials and citizen journalism videos from the Syrian conflict.
https://edkashi.com/project/california-paradise-burning/  This multimedia piece was produced for the New Yorker, originating out of a proposal he made about doing something on California’s drought. Matt Black, a great Magnum photographer and former assistant, collaborated on this piece.
