Short Doc Treatment

This semester, because of my cultural reporting class, my interest in Staten Island cultural organizations has grown. I am particularly interested in non-profit organizations.

I plan to focus on a few topics. Which are: How does a non-profit get started, what keeps a non-profit running, who funds their educational programs, why non-profits/the arts are important to our youth. how were they affected by the pandemic and how they’re doing now.

Covid-19 caused a number of changes to cultural institutions, such as the switch to virtual operations. Especially smaller local places, such as Alice Austen House Museum, Emma’s Place – grief and loss center, St. George Theater.

These non-profit organizations that I am featuring, aside from Emma’s Place, all have educational programs for children – I want to try to highlight the educational programs, by including descriptions, with b-roll of the locations, just incase the timeline does not pan out or if permission is not granted to film in a educational setting. (Emma’s Place does offer grief training in schools and workplaces after a loss, so maybe that also counts as educational?)

My reason for including Emma’s Place among all these cultural organization non-profits is because over the last two years – many of us have suffered numerous losses, from in person interactions to jobs and income to the loss of a loved one due to Covid-19. With the interview I already conducted, I feel the importance of working through grief will be conveyed.

Short doc pitch

News Peg:  Are non-profits still thriving as Covid-19 slows down?

or  Is funding an educational program a donor’s first choice?

Angle: This short doc will focus on non-profits (3) based in Staten Island ( unsure if I will narrow my focus to ONE) and their educational programs. I plan to focus on a few topics. Which are: How does a non-profit get started, what keeps a non-profit running, who funds their educational programs, why non-profits/the arts are important to our youth. how were they affected by the pandemic and how they’re doing now.

Victoria Munro – Executive Director of Alice Austen House

Love Languages | Visual Poem FINAL

With my visual poem, I wanted to capture my day-to-day with my core circle of loved ones whom I see daily/weekly.  Seeing as Covid-19 restrictions just started to roll back, we are still getting back into going out to planned events. I wanted the home movie feel, and I am hoping I got that across. It wasn’t easy to execute this idea, however I am happy with my outcome.

Thank you,

Cristine Trimarco

Love Languages – Visual Poem

Location:  Staten Island, New York

People: myself, Michael. Possibly Alice and Alexis.

Timeline: March 3rd – 13th

The five love languages are: words of affirmation, physical touch, receiving gifts, quality times, and acts of service.

I hope to portray each of the love languages visually.

Words of affirmation – to show this, I have a few scenes in mind. For example, writing in the white board, viewing inspirational posters/advertisements, sending positive/loving texts.

Physical touch – the most obvious and seemingly easiest love language to film. Kiss, hugs, holding hands.

Quality Time – I plan to show time spent together, time just between Michael and I. Like eating breakfast, watching our favorite shows, going for a walk.

Receiving gifts – to give gifts on any occasion.  Film someone outside of gift shop, buying flowers etc

Acts of service – doing a chore, doing a favor for someone, cooking a meal/making a snack for someone

Visual poem pitch

Visual poem: love/happiness

I want to show love, or love languages and happiness. Through the many forms of love.  Acts of service, giving or receiving gifts, touch etc.

Some shots I have in mind are capturing someone doing something they love or that makes them happy. How you look watching your favorite movie or new movie, playing your favorite sport, creating art, seeing someone you love etc
