An one hour train ride to Carroll Street , nine minute walk to Nevins Street, and one bridge crossing over the Gowanus Canal, leads to place where old electronics sit, waiting for a new home. The LES E-Waste Warehouse welcomes anyone to donate their unwanted electronics. Ranging from record players to mac laptops, these electronics are given a new life as they are refurbished to be reused instead of sitting in landfill, creating unnecessary waste and space to New York City.
Artwork can be seen throughout the warehouse. This piece hangs with old electronics with leaves that can be connected to LES’s mission for a sustainable New York.
Artwork isn’t only inside the warehouse-it is outside as well! Visitors are greeted by a graffiti wall straight from a sci-fi movie.
Another example of old electronics being turned into art work. This piece uses the hardware of electronics to create this colorful ensemble.
The E-Waste Warehouse is also known for their prop library. Visitors can rent out items to give their films, photography, etc. a more realistic look.
An old Macintosh laptop, the first iPod, cellphones from 80s, a typewriter, and other vintage items can be seen in the display.
Rows and rows of old electronics are stacked up to the ceiling. Closed off to visitors, this section can only be explored during private tours.
Last but not least, visitors can bring home a bag of compost home. E-Waste Warehouse sells vermicompost that uses worms to break down food scraps.
