Fordham, Fordham, Fordham

Last week, it was great to have Adam Fried from Fordham University speak to us. I wasn’t considering Fordham as a school, but I thought the opportunity was nice to have.

However, I recently took the GRE and my scores were not where I needed them to be. I started to worry that I wouldn’t get into any of the programs I’m applying to and I thought that maybe I should be applying to more schools to give myself options. The next question, of course, was where should I apply? And Fordham stuck out in my mind!

I am now applying to Fordham (along with Adelphi) to give myself more options. Even though they are a bit far from my home (about 2 hours by train), I think having more options means a better chance of acceptance at one of them.

If anyone else is interested in Fordham, let me know!

  1. I probably wouldn’t have considered Fordham, before last week as well. I am know considering it as a potential school. I am looking into the psychometrics program.

  2. Hi Linda!

I was also thinking about branching out to other schools outside of New York City not only to give myself more options but because there are not a lot of the graduate programs in the city with research or faculty interested in eating disorders, which is what I really want to do. Then, before our meeting with Adam Fried, I was searching through information/thesis/clinical experience that lab members of one of Fordham’s research labs have and realized a lot of them were interested in eating disorders. They related it to different kinds of topics such as its relation to emotional dysregulation or body image disturbance! I hadn’t thought much of what I have wanted to focus on in terms of research in eating disorders, but these graduate students made me realize that you can branch out in many specific and novel ways. Also, Fordham allows its students to take a variety of different internships and externships while completing its graduate program, so I realized I could gain training in treating eating disorders at different schools and hospitals. I hadn’t thought much of Fordham because of its location and because (I was probably silly to think this) of the religious aspect to it, but now I know that is graduate program and faculty truly outweigh what I thought was negative and that there is actually not that much emphasis on religion. So I’m going to apply to Fordham now as well. I wish you the best of luck!

  3. Hi Linda,

Though I am not yet applying to graduate school, I definitely became interested in Fordham after Mr. Fried came to our seminar. As someone accurately mentioned in class last week, many graduate school websites have a reputation for being vague, difficult to navigate, and quite frankly, misleading. It was so refreshing to have an actual PERSON (not statistic, chart, or webpage) come in not just to represent their institution, but to enrich the students with his own experiences. I am glad that you are broadening your options and considering schools that may have previously been out of your comfort zone. Do not let the distance of the colleges or the novelty (for lack of a better word) of the application experience overwhelm you; you are doing all the right things, and I hope that you get into the school you want!
