Freshman Seminar – Journal Entry #1

Life is full of all different kinds of experiences: positive, negative, interesting, sad, etc. Fortunately, I have had several experiences that have shaped who I am today. Although all of them are too many to discuss, one of the main ones was my family’s immigration to America. Even though I was born in this country, it was very tough to start school coming from a family that had a different understanding of the educational process and went to school in a different country. Starting school was one of the most difficult times for my family and I but I was able to overcome any obstacles and guide my family to do the same and essentially did very well.

Now this success has brought me to a new stage in my life – college! I can classify college as one big experience but that would not be just since there are so many aspects of it. I’m extremely looking forward to spending these next four years at Baruch College. Although my expectations aren’t even clear to myself yet, I do have the “basic” goals. Of course I would like to upkeep good grades that lead to a good GPA, be part of one or even a few clubs, etc. However there is one other expectation that I have which is to grow and excel both physically and professionally beyond my grades/academics. My goal is to expose myself to and gain all kinds of different experiences to help me gain a better idea of the world and to further prepare me for my future career. I am especially excited since this first semester is my taste to all of the great things that I will be experiencing in the next four years.
