Journal #1

Growing up, I had to earn most things in my life. I learned early on that if I wanted to become something or do something, I had to make it happen myself. As a result, I would develop strong work ethic and unwavering persistence in my daily actions. I learned that work ethic and persistence go a long way in helping one achieve dreams and aspirations.

I was able to have big dreams and goals early in my life through sports. I loved to watch basketball when I was younger but now it is a large part of my life. Almost every sports story is about a person trying to achieve something very unlikely or difficult. It is near impossible to become a professional athlete and even more so to become a superstar. Watching sports allowed me to see the goals, the stories, successes and failures of many other people just like me. This in turn motivates me to a great extent because I can build on what other people have done or couldn’t do to improve my life.

As a college student, I expect to perform well academically because academics is a major aspect of who I am. I also want to become stronger in finance and business which is my career goal. I also want to have a good balance in my life of academics, interests and social. I understand that being balanced is the best way to fully experience what college has to offer. In addition, having a good balance will only improve myself as a person.

I was concerned with the work load and the rigor of the classes in the beginning.  I didn’t know how difficult college work would be and how much I was expected to do. I understand that work ethic will play a large part in how efficiently I do on assignments, tests, etc.
