Journal Entry One

Thanks in large part to my parents’ high expectations,  experiences in my life that strike me most would come from my  favorite hobbies: tennis and music. After a lot of matches, practice, anxiety and hard work I realized the most important fact in tennis and in life. From day one my trainer told me, “Play every point like it’s your match point.” I shrugged him off, without really analyzing or understanding what he meant. Although, I was not able to grasp the idea right away; it turned out to be the most valuable lesson that anyone has ever taught me. This idea doesn’t only help me on the court but in everyday life. I try to incorporate the fact that: anything I start I have to follow through and give 100% effort towards.  My piano recitals definitely focused on training a different part of me, that part was my mental composure. Before every recital everything always seemed to go wrong. I always forgot my musical pieces, my fingers always felt stiff and uncomfortable, and I always forgot my speech I had to prepare as an introduction to my piano piece. However, as soon as I stepped in front of my audience I was forced to compose myself and deliver the performance everyone expected from me.

As a college student I expect to learn. I want to learn anything and everything I can from my teachers and peers. There are many of interesting people, areas, and subjects that I hope to be exposed to throughout my four years as a college student. I see my first semester as a time to adjust to Baruch life. That is why after my first semester I expect to feel comfortable and situated. I expect that I won’t be as skeptical to try new things and will see Baruch as an extended home.
