Scholar is mostly defined as a specialist in a given branch of knowledge. Not only high academic goals, Baruch scholars are people who need to develop social skills.  It is no doubt that scholar should obtain high GPA-an inevitable requirement for a scholar. Besides school study, Baruch scholars should serve a role model in student organizations. Mostly scholars are actively involved in the clubs, sport teams and other school organizations. One way to effectively influence others is to hold positions in these organizations. Through interpersonal communication, scholars play a strong role in college leadership.

Honor Program also focus on scholars’ contributions in the community. Baruch scholars are required to compete certain amount of community service. Volunteer service provides scholars a broad view to the society and benefits the community at the same time. Scholars spend their spare time challenging themselves to experience new things outside their comfort zones and helping solve or address a social issue that personally impacts them. Volunteering in a non-profit organization, scholars expand their perspectives by working with and learning from people from different culture, life experiences.

As Baruch scholars, our group has made up our mind to volunteer in a soup kitchen, a non-profit organization offering food and cloth to homeless and less fortunate people. Not only by providing physical materials, we can show them love and affection to help them go through their hard times. In my opinion, to those homeless and less fortunate, they are more hunger for care and warmth than breed. Also, homeless is a big and controversial issue in the society. People have different opinions and attitudes towards homeless. They hold debates about whether we should help them. By actually helping them, I hope to get an insight about this issue like how they become homeless, whether or not they try to find a job by themselves.

I all agree that what we are learning now will eventually be used in the community later. Doing community service now will actually put our education into practical use.
