Generally, I feel that my role as a Baruch student is to try my best at school and attain the highest grades possible. But as a Baruch Scholar, I believe that more effort is needed not only to attain such high grades but also to serve as a leading example. Although I am only in the first semester of my freshman year, I intend to participate in clubs/organizations in the 2nd half of the freshman year up until I finish college and hopefully play major roles in those groups. So far, I have simply taken the advice given by my advisor- focus on my grades and achieve a high GPA. As Mr. Medina said during one session, “The valedictorian of 2013 could be one of you guys”. Furthermore, one should not simply join a club or organization because he/she feels inclined to but rather join something he/she likes. Speaking in a general tone, students should take advantage of the many clubs we have at Baruch. The Honors Program also provides a challenging and stimulating environment alongside a rich array of cultural programming. I feel that the community service project that is required for the Honors program is something we should take advantage of also. As a projected Business major, I find it very important to engage in the community and learn as much as possible about everything- but more importantly to expand your knowledge on something you like. Therefore, I will definitely be looking to take advantage of the many things Baruch College has to offer as a student/scholar.
