The Honors Program at Baruch aims to create and promote future leaders. Participation in the community will expand our views of the world. We learn to respect each other more through working with different types of people. We witness different types of situations that make us realize the injustice of the world. Along with that revelation, we try to come up with solutions that will benefit these underserved communities.
My role is to take the skills I’ve learned at Baruch and apply them to real world settings where I am able to give back to the community. Doing community service allows us to get the most out of our education. It is also serves as a learning experience for us. It allows us to discover where our strengths and where our weaknesses lie. It allows us to establish connections and relationships with others. It allows us to realize that we are part of a larger community. The worst thing in the world is to feel alone. Working with others allows us to realize that there are others out there for us.
Our communities helped to shape who we are and our success is a result of that help. We should give back and continue to provide the type of aid that they have given us. We cannot just focus on ourselves as individuals, but what is for the greater good. I was lucky to have been born into a life where I have opportunities. Not everyone has the same opportunities as us and we should give back to the community so that others can experience the same.
