Journal Entry Two

When I hear or see the term, “helping the community” I think of my volunteer experiences thus far. Starting form my freshman year in high school I began volunteering first as a camp counselor, then in a Jewish Organization, and most recently I have been volunteering at Coney Island Hospital. The skills and experience I gained form each of these organizations have been very helpful. As a Baruch Scholar I feel very privileged to be in this program. At the same time, I feel a sense of obligation to the Baruch community. The Honors Program requires students to engage in community service within the College or in the surrounding community. I would prefer to engage in community service in the surrounding community because NYC has so many interesting and unique not-for-profit organizations. By engaging in community service I will be able to develop leadership skills and an awareness for what is going on in the community.
