Every piece is important in the making of a puzzle. This concept can be correlated to that of a community. We are all tied to invisible threads that, at the slightest tug, push another person tied to it. Participating in the Community Service Project showed me what I can contribute to a group, including leadership, delegation techniques, dedication and savvy. These traits were showcased when I helped in the selection process, delegated and answered the questions in an effective manner and worked to make sure we had a strong presentation and group. Despite these strengths, I also managed to find my weaknesses, which I was able to hone in on and reduce, if not totally eliminate. I relied on the faculty and staff in order to gain from their knowledge and experience, allowing myself to change and adapt. In Baruch, I have joined the Cross Country team and am going to join the Advertising Club. Utilizing these courses gives me an edge in other courses, because I have more tools from which to call upon. Not only in terms of knowing and being able to deliver information readily; but by continuously being in a team dynamic, I am more accustomed to the setting of a businesslike situation. I also know what is required for a team to succeed and not just one person. Overall, my values have only been further reinforced and I more deeply understand just how connected we are within our communities. More importantly, I can now take this knowledge away for whatever my future may have in store.
