To be successful in anything, especially school, one of the most important things you can do is get involved. There are so many resources to which students can look for guidance and support including faculty, peers, coaches, tutoring centers, the library, and clubs.
By participating in a community service project, this helps us learn to reach out to people. This especially has helped us to look upon teachers and faculty members for advice about what kind of work we should be doing as well as how we should go about doing it. Working in groups has also fostered a spirit of community within Baruch. This sense of community has also inspired us to continue this to the outside world and not hesitate to get involved with everyone, especially those in need.
At the start of my first semester here at Baruch, I decided to join the swim team. Joining a team helps one become part of the community. It also promotes working together and using the resources your team members bring forth, along with your own, to further help get the job done. Being a team player is one of the most important aspects of doing well in courses at school, and also when getting into the workforce.
My understanding of community service has definitely evolved as a result of my participation in the project. I now see how easy it is to get involved, for everyone is looking for a helping hand. Also, helping out is a great way to understand those around you, as well as further understand who you really are, as well as who you wish to become.
