Next Steps…

My participation in the Community Service Project encouraged me to draw upon the expertise of faculty and staff. Specifically, Stephen Francoeur tutorial about the advantages of the library at Baruch has helped me tremendously. With his help, I am able to do research much more effectively by piling up a tremendous amount of sources for my topic and being certain that my sources are reliable. In my project, my group plans at volunteering at an animal shelter. For the question regarding how politics relates to my community service topic, I was able to pile up a lot of information about the Steven v. United States animal cruelty case which is currently being debated on in the Supreme Court regarding animal cruelty. With Mr. Francoeur’s help, I was able to find information very easily and my job as a researcher was also very easy. These resources, like JSTOR on the Baruch website has given me an edge to my other courses at Baruch because currently in my English 2100 class, we are writing a research paper. This research paper is 8-10 pages and with the help of Mr. Francoeur, I am able to find a lot of information regarding my child labor topic. If it was not for Freshman Seminar, I would have probably never knew anything about the resources that the library gives us.

Recent student clubs that I have joined at Baruch includes the Hillel program. Through the Hillel program many opportunities for Jewish seminars are available and I am able to learn more about my religion, which is something that is very important to me.

My understanding of community service has evolved because with my scholarship and countless opportunities, I understand the importance of giving back as well. Specifically, I aim to help animals who can not voice out their mistreatment, obviously, so I find it my duty to help them on my part. I am very excited to volunteer this upcoming semester
