One major obstacle I have faced in my life is utilizing resources that are given to me. For the longest time I insisted on doing things myself, and relying on my own personal judgement to hopefully get somewhere with whatever task I was trying to achieve. It is finally now that I am starting to realize how many options are given to me, and how much more I can achieve with the help of others. Ever since I came to Baruch College, my eyes have opened. The amount of clubs, organizations and events to get involved in are overwhelming. So far, the most used resource at Baruch for me is the STARR Career Development Center. I have attended two seminars, and it has made me excited to embark on my life journey at this college. It has also helped me to look ahead, and plan for my future. I also love the STARR Career Development Center because I know the amount of opportunities they have for students, and it makes me feel safe and secure in my upcoming years, even after college.
When assigned the Community Service Project, I contacted an organization, and worked with them to set up volunteer hours. I learned about what this organization does to help, and I learned how I can help them as well. This project has helped me learn how to connect with others, and has broadened my knowledge of the many different ways we can serve our community, outside of just donating money. This project has also taught me the importance of working with others, and how much you can achieve when you utilize your material and personal resources.
