Journal Entry #3

Responsibility, teamwork, dedication these are some adjectives that I have come to grasp and further develop through our participation in community service. Working together as a team showed me that if we learn to point out each others strong points we are able to benefit and accomplish more. It showed me that when working on a team one has to leave behind the sense of competition and learn to but into use everyone’s skill for the better of the group. One cannot work selfishly, one cannot just alone point out the weaknesses of another but rather point them out and help them make those weaknesses closer to points of strength. By volunteering for the Human Society of New York I also developed different skills. I have to acquire the skills needed for working with animals. They require different attention, different needs, and working with them helped me value life past humans but more towards nature as well. Now through the community service I have done, I will be able to better utilize my skills for when I pursue my major in finance. If working in a corporation is where my career path will lead me too then having excellent working skills will be needed. Although this is a point that might’ve been forgotten about corporations, they also try to provide the best community service for their surrounding areas. Having community service experience could be what makes the difference between myself and the person sitting next to me. The community service I have taken part in through Baruch will help me in my future goals.
