I didn’t expect to be blogging at all after freshman seminar but here goes. Why not use it to see how far I can develop my game in tennis! Recently I’ve actually played many consecutive hours of tennis. My legs were actually a little sore from playing tennis. Being sore from playing tennis usually doesn’t happen to me. Now that it’s vacation I sleep even later than during the semester. Not surprisingly I sleep till around 12:30pm everyday. My friend/unofficial coach gave me this great tip that hopefully will help me in the long run. He told me he noticed that my entire tennis game is based on rhythm and how I look for the rhythm in my strokes. If I hit the fuzzy yellow thing and it doesn’t feel nice I put myself down. He was right about all of this. Here comes the amazing tip in a nut shell. “Don’t look for the rhythm make it.” What he meant was if I am not doing so well play some more safe shots and when the opportune moment arises take it. For example if a short ball comes that I think I can kill do so. It’ll boost my confidence and that’s where the rhythm comes in. Rather than looking for my rhythm make it because most players you play against are out there to do everything in their power to disrupt your rhythm. At the moment I still don’t have the perfect technique but I will keep on working on it. Hopefully this piece of advice will help a lot in the near future. MAKE THE RHYTHM Damon!! Good thing I’m writing this down so I can come back and look at this.
Things to Work On:
Backhand- Still hitting late, letting your wrist drop(Bend knees to keep it from doing that), step forward, and keep your weight centered, watch the ball and keep your head still. Slice is okay will work on it more after the topspin backhand is better.
Forehand-Too much torso rotation, less is more! Legs push up off the ground into the ball.
First Serve- Still not hitting up as much I used to. Head Up. Bend both knees weight equally distributed.
Second Serve- Getting there same bad habits as the first serve but fix the ball toss more. Ball toss needs to be less into the court.
Volleys- Keep eyes on the ball. Half Volleys need to go deeper
Overall Game: Need to clear the net higher with the backhand. Step across on the running forehand.
