As honor students we have certain requirements. We must maintain a certain GPA and take a certain amount of honors classes. But as honors students one of our greatest responsibilities is to be role models to other students and to represent Baruch College in the best way possible. And this cannot be accomplished by just getting good grades. We need to show a spirit of self sacrifice to our community, especially a community which has already given so much to us. By serving voluntarily our community we are not only expressing our gratitude but we also set a standard for other students to want to follow.
But in the end, serving voluntarily will probably make us the happiest. When we help others that are in need we see how even the smallest of actions can make a difference. We can help another person gain happiness, and that, in opinion is true success. We can gain all the honors in the world, have the highest paying job, but in the end, that’s not really going to make us happy.
I have enjoyed my past community service experiences. Working with other people as a part of something bigger in other to help many others is very fulfilling. You know that at the end of the day, even if you’re tired and didn’t earn any money, you know you accomplished something. You helped others that were in need, and that is very satisfying. And now that I’m a Baruch student, I know that working with my fellow peers will be just as rewarding.
