Journal Entry Three

Our school contains so many incredible and helpful resources.  I really had no idea that there would be this large of a variety of opportunities. So far the main resource that I have been using is the library and the information we received at the library presentations that my classes attended. In order to find the most well-organized and reliable facility for my group to volunteer at, we used several of the databases that we were introduced to during our library workshops. We were able to find a very well-known and seemingly prestigious animal shelter, the Humane Society of New York. Learning to use these databases properly definitely helps with research for my other classes. When using the databases you know you are getting reliable and true information as opposed to other search engines that you need to be careful with. By learning the proper way to use the databases and the other sources provided by the library in our freshmen year, we will, without a doubt, have continued success here at Baruch. Although we have not participated directly in our service yet, my understanding of community service has still evolved. Since we were put into groups, we had to use our teamwork skills in compromising on a service, filling out our community service proposal, and in making our presentation. We were able to successfully divide up the work which, in my opinion, foreshadows that we will work extremely well together in the spring. Being a team player and combining your skills with your team members’ skills is really the key to having success in bettering the community.
