Journal Entry Three

As I continue through the semester, my familiarity with what the school has to offer expands. Acclimating myself to the whole college process has been one of my more difficult transitions. As opposed to high school where the resources were handed to you, in college the opportunities are greater but you are only told of them. If you wish to use these resources you must take the initiative yourself. College is but another stepping stone in a line of stones that you need to step on before getting to the next one and these resources like the writing center and the library are the sub stones that have to be stepped on before you make your leap into the “real world”.

Within the first couple of months in school I have used the library, the computer labs, the writing center and I have acquainted myself with staff members and students throughout the campus. What seems to amaze me every week is my ability to juggle my academics successfully alongside a 25 to 35 hour workweek. Without the tools at Baruch that are not only offered and made available to us students, but also encouraged for use by our professors and peers, this would not be possible.

As a Baruch Scholar it is important that I give back to the community that has given me opportunities. When first presented with the idea of doing a community service project I was unsure of what to do or how to do it. Luckily I was given a partner and that not only alleviated stress but it expanded my resources.
