The involvement in the Community Service Project encouraged me to draw on faculty and staff for more information. I have used the SACC center in my time at Baruch for assistance in my speech preparations. It is very nice to have such a center available for assistance for many different classes. Centers like this are extremely helpful throughout my Baruch career because they will help me along the way, even if I may not be encountering a problem with a class this semester, it is very possible that I will use these services in the future. It is indeed very helpful to have learned about such things sooner rather than later. The writing center seems like it will be of great importance to my future at Baruch as it could truly give me an edge for the many writing assignments that are sure to come my way throughout my time here. Also it seems likely I may return to the SACC center for math help as well. Clearly these centers have a great amount of uses and I know that they are definitely a resource I will be revisiting in the future. My view of community service has evolved to give me more of a very personal connection with the community service. I say this because, especially with the program I will be volunteering with, it is about developing a personal connection with the kids that I interact with. This is a major difference from a possible work of charity more focused on a concrete item. The community service I am doing is about creating a lasting experience for a child. Well quite frankly, I am unsure of where I see myself in the next 3 years. It is a long way off and I know a lot will change from now to then, but I guess by those words, I see that I will have changed, matured and will hopefully be much more sure of what I will do. For now, I have to work with what I have.

My role in the Baruch and broader community as a Baruch scholar in the Honors program is rather basic and pretty simple. I have done some work in soup kitchen’s and handing out clothes to the homeless at shelters, but I still think currently my role is still pretty basic. However, i think my role in Baruch as a Baruch scholar should be much more involved, especially as an Honors student. My only concern is that I am not fully adjusted to work load and such in my first semester so I planed on being much more reserved with club and community activity, so that way I truly know what I am getting into. That being said, I know that I should have a high involvement in school and the community. Also I think the community service project is a good start to getting into doing more in the community as the actual work occurs next semester when I will know more of what I can do. This makes it directly related to the culture of service the Honors Program promotes because they require that community service to be done in a project format. I think it is good to expand out and help others as they require, and not only for those who are being helped but the person themselves. When one is asked to help others it usually can bring up the mood of the person doing the helping. Also the Honors Program promotes giving back which is always a good thing to look forward to, which is why I look forward to my community service project.

Hello, recently I have had an experience that truly shaped my life, because it gave me a different outlook on everyday activity. That experience being, a labral tear in my shoulder. This tear meant I would need to have surgery and thus refrain from activity for months on end. However, the most influential part of this was how sudden it really was. One day I am playing baseball, and the next I am getting prepared for surgery. Just like that, with a snap of the finger my activities were shut down. This really showed me that things can change so dramatically in an instant, and I truly need to take care of my body because anything can happen and maybe there will not be a surgery available to fix it. It is just a break from the common young theme of invincibility, and I know realize that I just need to be much more careful, but that does not mean that I should restrict my activities. I know believe nothing should be taken for granted, specifically from a physical activity standpoint. As a college student I expect to do well, and to be learning interesting new information from all different types of people and different areas. I hope that I can broaden some of my horizons and try new things. My only and major concern is that the work will pile up once everything really starts going.
