Anita (Varesio) Lohman is retired from her Portland, Ore., clinical psychology practice and currently enjoys skiing, golf, and hiking. She has become an artist in collage and assemblage and sculpture.

Norm Strauss (MBA ’69), Ernst & Young Executive Professor-in-Residence at Baruch, chaired the College’s 9th Annual Financial Reporting Conference, held in April. The daylong conference, organized by the Robert Zicklin Center for Corporate Integrity, served as a forum for interaction between business and accounting executives. William M. Trust, Jr. (MBA ’70) has been appointed non-executive chairman of Presidential Life’s board of directors. A principal at Innovation Management Consulting, he has been a board director of numerous domestic and international corporations and joint ventures.

In June Gerhard (Gary) Rosenthal traveled to Israel to attend the quadrennial World Zionist Congress. The international treasurer of United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, Rosenthal was elected a delegate on behalf of MERCAZ USA, the Zionist organization of the Conservative movement. In March Cambridge House Press published Waking Up, a novel by Joe Traum. The book is about a real estate investment banker who takes on the investigation of his son’s murder. Traum retired from the real estate business in 2005.

Charles Dreifus

Baruch College Fund Trustee Charles Dreifus (MBA ’73) was selected as one of five nominees for the Morningstar Manager of the Decade award in the domestic equity category. Portfolio manager for Royce Special Equity Fund and principal of Royce & Associates, Dreifus was a guest on Consuelo Mack/WealthTrack, the nationally televised PBS finance and investment series. Edward S. Plotkin (MBA) has received the Underground Construction Association (UCA) of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) Lifetime Achievement Award. A professional engineer in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C., Plotkin also teaches environmental science at Mercy College.

On Oct. 14, Robert A. Friedman (MBA) joined a large audience in BPAC (the Baruch College Performing Arts Center) as moderator of the panel discussion and viewing of the documentary Arguing the World. The film creates a vivid picture of intellectual life in 20th-century America by following the lives of Irving Howe, Daniel Bell, Nathan Glazer, and Irving Kristol, four brilliant and engaging men who began their journeys as young radicals at the City College of New York in the 1930s. Also participating was Baruch College Presidential Professor of History Carol Berkin. A trustee emeritus of The Baruch College Fund, Friedman is a retired partner of Goldman Sachs and founding principal of Robeco-Sage Capital Management, LLC.
