Bernard Baruch may have been born in the mid-19th century, but during his long life (he died in 1965 at the age of 95), he made countless connections in myriad fields. And though he didn’t know it, he numbered among his vast acquaintance young people destined for fame.
In the 2009 book Girls Like Us, about the lives and careers of musical icons Carol King, Joni Mitchell, and Carly Simon, Bernard Baruch makes a startling appearance. He was a family friend of the Simons. Carly’s dad was a New York mover and shaker like Baruch; Richard L. Simon was one of the founders of publishing giant Simon & Schuster.
