Cynthia Dolphin, who has worked in civil service for 28 years, is currently a principal administrative associate with the New York City Department of Probation. Marcia Karrow (EMBA) has been named executive director of the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission. The former assemblywoman and state senator most recently chaired a subcommittee examining the N.J. Department of Environmental Protection.

Mark Abramowitz is the director of U.S. fixed income valuations at Standard & Poor’s. He lives on Long Island. Richard Toscano (MBA), who has a private law practice in Queens, N.Y., is the recipient of the 2010 Beacon of Justice Award from the National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA). The award recognizes law firms that have made a significant contribution to pro bono representation in the area of immigration law. Toscano was honored at the NLADA Exemplar Awards Dinner in October in Washington, D.C.

Thomas Kramer (MBA ’98) recently joined the faculty of the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business as associate professor of marketing. In August John Sommer was named CFO and VP for finance at Hudson County Community College in New Jersey. He was previously VP, CFO, and COO of Centenary College.

Research magazine has named Stefan J. Contorno to its fourth annual ETF Hall of Fame. He is financial advisor-VP and co-founder of Crisci, Contorno & Associates, Merrill Lynch, based in Naples, Fla.

Fran Murphy and her husband

Last November Baruch’s Zicklin Graduate Admission Director Fran Murphy (MBA ’98) joined the QS World MBA Fair to meet prospective students in Beijing, Shanghai, and Taipei. The tour is the biggest of its kind in the world. Murphy met with about 90 prospective Baruchians. When not recruiting, she and her husband visited such sites as the Forbidden City, the Beijing Zoo, and the Great Wall. Oscar Onyema (MBA) has been named the new director general and CEO of the Nigerian Stock Exchange. He was previously a senior VP and chief administrative officer with the American Stock Exchange and is currently a member of the Security Traders Association of New York and Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.

After working in finance for a few years after graduation, Sean Godin moved back home to Tampa, Fla., and armed with old family taco recipes, opened a taquería in Ybor City. He is looking to expand the business in the near future. Longtime Baruch College employee and recent retiree Anthony Petrokonis returned to the campus last November to help the College celebrate Veterans Day. A Vietnam War veteran and frequent speaker at the annual President’s Veterans Luncheons, Petrokonis attends “to help send a positive message to Baruch’s new veterans.” During his 30 years at Baruch, he worked in the dean’s offices of all three schools. Since retiring he has focused on spending time with family and close friends.
