“There are no words to describe CUNY’s Macaulay Honors College because there are so many words to describe it,” says Baruch junior Deborah Sebrow (’13). “It is challenging, but it is also rewarding. You experience things you normally wouldn’t and really learn to appreciate them.”
The human resource management major is anything but timid, though. Sebrow arrived at Baruch in 2009 after studying abroad through Hadassah’s Young Judaea Year Course in Israel, a university-level, gap-year program for high school graduates that blends academic study, community living, volunteering, and travel.
The Teaneck, N.J., native chose Baruch because she recognized that the College had opportunities and resources that would allow her to thrive. “You can really make what you want of your education at Baruch,” Sebrow says. And she has done just that, maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average. As busy as Sebrow is, she also makes time to volunteer at the Yorkville Common Pantry and Hadassah.
Throughout her years at Baruch, Sebrow has shone outside the classroom in internships in a variety of industries. She landed her first internship at Tommy Hilfiger in her sophomore year, gaining valuable experience in a corporate setting with its International Licensing Team. For her next internship, she explored her interest in law with an internship at Duane Morris LLP, where she assisted in legal research, contributed to the development of a cohesive master catalog, and designed indexes for fast-record retrieval. Sebrow then landed a human resources internship at NBCUniversal’s East Coast Page Program and is, this spring, continuing at NBCUniversal as a human resources intern with its Corporate Diversity team.
What are Sebrow’s future plans? The star student will pursue a postgraduate career in human resources because she “adores all aspects of the field.”
