At the 12-year mark, Baruch’s Executives On Campus (EOC) Program continues to enhance the quality of students’ educational experience and career development. Through EOC, students connect with successful leaders in business, government, and nonprofits. Currently, 2,500 students and 400 alumni and friends actively participate in EOC.

Of the opportunities the program offers, none is more powerful or potentially life changing than the one-on-one mentor-mentee relationship, as current MS candidate Liwei He (’14) can attest. Her mentor is retired advertising executive Lawrence Levy (’55). “Larry gives me a lot of courage and inspiration,” she says. “He’s knowledgeable in my field and tries hard to find opportunities for me through his network.” Through phone calls and face-to-face meetings about every two weeks, mentee and mentor have built a close personal relationship. Liwei characterizes Levy as “considerate, responsible, helpful.”

Liwei earned a bachelor’s degree in international business at Guangdong University of Foreign Language in China and is earning her Baruch MS in marketing.

Levy, who earned a Baruch degree in advertising in 1955, has a wealth of practical, real-world marketing experience: For 20 years, he worked on the agency side at such well-known firms as McCann Erickson, J. Walter Thompson, and Grey. He then moved to the client side, working at JPMorgan Chase for 15 years as vice president and advertising director. Now retired, Levy still works part time as a marketing consultant and serves as treasurer of the International Advertising Association.

Baruch’s Executives On Campus brought student and alumnus-mentor together in October 2012, after Liwei followed up on an e-mail she received about EOC.

On the larger EOC program, the Zicklin graduate student also showers praise: “EOC always gives all the mentees opportunities to network and understands that the mentor-mentee connection is a connection with heart.”
