Vanessa Glushefski received the Marie Nesbitt Promise Prize Award from the Minority Bar Association of Western New York at its 30th annual awards dinner and scholarship celebration last fall. Glushefski is a law student at the University of Buffalo. Hans Petit-Homme has joined Warburg Realty as an agent.

New York Association of Black Journalists award-winner Antoine Craigwell teamed up with director Stanley Bennett Clay to produce You Are Not Alone, a film depicting the lives of black gay men suffering through depression. The documentary premiered in November. Martin Shkrell, the founder of MSMB Capital, is the founder and chief executive of Retrophin, Inc., a biotechnology company focused on discovering and developing treatments for rare and life-threatening diseases.

Alex Couture (MS) is a senior program manager for Google’s display advertising team, which is responsible for the DoubleClick suite of products used by online publishers to deliver advertising on their websites. Michael G. Morris (MBA) has been promoted to executive managing director of the global corporate services sector at Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, the commercial real estate advisory firm. Chester Zygmont (MS) has joined La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company as director of finance. He most recently served as managing director at Z3 Capital, LLC.

Maritza R. Alarcon has become the dream director of The Future Project at the Henry Street School on New York City’s Lower East Side. Salvatore Dosena (MS) has been named director of student services for the Merrick (Long Island) Union Free School District. He previously served as assistant principal at P.S. 182 in Jamaica, Queens. Heather Schultz returned to Baruch as a full-time MPA student. She is also a freelance journalist for the New York Times. Previously she held editorial positions at NYC-based trade publications. Fatima A. Shama (EMPA), New York City’s commissioner of immigrant affairs, was among those honored at the December 2012 Baruch College Community Reception. She was presented with a distinguished alumni award.

Aaron Choo (MBA), manager, community and customer management for National Grid–New York, has been recognized as a Brooklyn “Rising Star.” He is one of 40 top young professionals who exemplify outstanding leadership skills in their chosen field and community. During Hurricane Sandy restoration efforts, Choo worked to help customers in hardest-hit areas reconnect to the national grid’s natural gas network. Devon H. Mackay (MBA) has been named director of major gifts for the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County (N.C.). He most recently worked at the Mullen advertising agency in Winston-Salem. Gregorio Morales (MPA) was promoted to director of field operations for the Parks Opportunity Program, NYC Department of Parks. He joined the program as deputy director for policy analysis and fiscal management in 2009. Blaga Slaveykova-Paroby recently joined Realty Network Group as a realtor. A model who opened the Project Runway Season 11 finale during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, she is pursuing a master’s degree in global affairs at NYU. Lawanda Stewart has been promoted to assistant office services manager at the New York State Office of the Attorney General, where she supervises three departments within the Administrative Services Bureau.
