There’s no getting around it: Baruch students are a competitive lot, many seeking to climb to the top of their chosen profession once they complete their education. So it’s not surprising that dozens of students harnessed their ambition on Convocation Day 2013 (Aug. 27) to test themselves at a rock-climbing wall.
The portable apparatus was just one of the many opportunities of the event-packed day (the day before the new academic year’s classes begin). More than 1,200 incoming freshmen also took part in a formal welcome and orientation; small-group discussions of this year’s Freshman Text, The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker; a live-DJ-hosted block party on Baruch’s new 25th Street Interim Plaza; and a parents’ reception in the Newman Vertical Campus.
