Blue Notes

Baruch’s student clubs give participants a range of opportunities to find their voice—sometimes literally.

Case in point: the College’s coed a cappella student club Blue Notes, founded in 2015 and today one of the most active student groups on and off campus. As a group, Blue Notes has performed for New York City film premieres of Pitch Perfect 2 and Pitch Perfect 3, and members have appeared at various Baruch functions as well. The club also competes, having recently represented Baruch at the iTony A Cappella Invitational and the NY ACA-Idol Collegiate Competition and fundraiser.

Currently 18 voices strong, Blue Notes strives for diversity, with members from all three schools, all four undergraduate class years, and a variety of majors and levels of singing experience.
In musical parlance, a “blue note” is different from the rest of the composition or from what is expected—a definition that, notes Fred Burke, official club advisor and director of the Zicklin School’s Graduate Career Management Center, perfectly embodies the club’s spirit. “Like its namesake, the student group Blue Notes truly stands out,” he says.
