Oral history Project-Talia Valdez

This project helped me learn more about my sister and her point of view on the same events that we have experienced. Growing up in our motherland. And she is older than me. I got to hear her side of the story about her childhood even though we grew up in the same house. I didn’t get to meet my grandfather so hearing Karla talk about him made me feel happy because I got to learn more about him and the things that were meaningful to him. Also the fact that I got to wear this bracelet as I grew up was really important to me because it is like a piece of him I carry with me and he’s protecting me from wherever he’s at. My sister talks about her experience of coming to this country not knowing English and going to school. How hard was it for her to do her homework because our parents couldn’t really help her out since they didn’t know how to speak English either. She also talks about her environment and how it shaped her as a person. Also how Change from one environment to another shaped her and the person she is today. We speak about our family and how this bracelet is really important to us because it comes from our grandfather that I did not get to meet so having this item from him and hearing my older sister talk about him made me feel closer to him and appreciate even more this bracelet I was given. We keep his memory alive with this bracelet and we get to pass it on to our future kids and get to tell them all these stories as well. I also added some little clips of stuff that were mentioned in the interview because I wanted the people that are going to listen to this interview to not just listen but to also see what we are talking about. So showing, not just telling.
