Welcome to Brit’s Barre! I believe in celebrating each woman’s unique gifts and talents, while inspiring you to reach your greatest potential by giving you the tools you need to live a healthy, balanced life.
Often my clients ask me what a “day in the life” is like for me; how do I stay so fit and energized? What do I eat to get the physique that I have? Before I get into the details, my number one piece of advice is:
BALANCE AND MODERATION.
I do not ascribe to any kind of diet or eating regime, but simply focus on putting nutrient-dense foods into my body and allowing myself the balance to enjoy those “naughty” things that I love in moderation. What does this mean for me? I love wine and chocolate. I know I will not cut these out of my diet, so I balance my splurges with all of the other amazing things I fuel my body with.
Now for a typical day in my life when it comes to food:
Breakfast: I cannot stress this enough–DO NOT SKIP BREAKFAST. This destroys your metabolism. I often hear that people simply do not have time in the morning. Trust me, I am not a morning person, but everyone has time to grab a banana or a handful of almonds in the least. My typical breakfast consists of 2 hard boiled eggs and a green smoothie or a cup of greek yogurt.
Lunch: I am often on the go, so our New York delis are a perfect spot to get the greens you need in your diet with a big salad. Make sure you incorporate some form of protein.
Snack: I carry Lara Bars, Pro Bars, granola or nuts in my bag at all times to fend off the afternoon cravings.
Dinner: I get my largest portion of protein here (wild-caught salmon, free-range chicken, or grass-fed beef) along with a side salad, and yes, often a glass of red wine.
So how do I monitor the quality of the food I am putting in my body? Our society is becoming much more health conscious, but unfortunately the marketing for products can be quite deceptive in order to promote mass appeal. The simplest and most effective way to monitor the quality of the food you are putting in your body is to take a look at the list of ingredients. Make sure there are no more than a handful of ingredients, and you know what each one of them is; this means that they grew in nature somewhere without manmade interference. If you really start to pay attention to what comprises the food you eat, you will be surprised all of the things you thought were healthy for you but are actually packed with artificial preservatives.
This wraps up a “typical day in the life” for me. Take one day at a time, and give yourself grace in the process.
