Theme #3: Use Of Bold/Font Text within the neighborhood of Corona Queens Palaza.

While the use of language is vital to individuals, the usage of bold fonts play a huge role for Coronas linguistic appearance to the public area as it does not only contribute to test if the audience has ability to read but showcasing the overall presence of the businesses visual representation. As we can see in figure 3 reading “Walgreens with the use of a bold font, with upper case letters and the use of a bright red color” reflects the brands bold and attention grabbing presence it has, as it makes it easy to stand out. This design choice reflects the brands intention to project a strong, high visible commercial environment to assert their business presence and communicate to the audience. This conveys the idea that the use of fonts and color for local businesses aren’t just for simple use but making sure the business stands out to better engage with the communicate and compete for attention in a diverse setting.

Figure 9 is directly next to Figures 7 and 8. Boost Mobile is another example where in terms of size and font falls within the category of it capturing the audiences attention. ” Boost Mobile along with its orange logo” shows how the business is aiming to capture the communities attention, with its use of a font combined with a vibrant and dark color palette creates a strong visual impact that is easily recognizable from a distance. This design is a strategy that is effectively effective where both font weight and color are used to guide the viewer’s attention. This implies how boost mobile and other store business use these technique within a high density populated area to stand out against other retail stores to increase community and consumer engagement to then reinforce their brands.

Overall Corona’s long rich history has prolonged to evolve over the years, however its enrich history and old school use of signs with graffiti, rustic, bold font letters represents its past landmark based on its ancient appearance it has. Old school vincular signs are signs that are old school signs that are connected to the history and the past of Corona’s ancient local businesses that are yet still established. It was stated ” Queens in the 1920s wasn’t just a neighbor to the bustling metropolis of Manhattan… It was a unique world, evolving from quiet farmland and small villages into a vibrant hub of activity.” Thus overtime Corona evolved but its past structure is still present within the businesses signs. These signs reflect a sense of reminisce as it holds a deep connection with the community’s landmark of the area. For example in (figure 10) there is contact information for customers to learn about the stores and the area but there is also heavy use of graffiti and old retro colors with the use of bold fonts”. These signs create a bridge that set a reminder to the people of how throughout the years there is old school vincucular signs that are efficent and useful to the areas landscape. Along with its use of fonts that inform and offer information, it sets an experience where it marks Corona a memorable and unquie landscape.

Ultimately, my walk through my neighborhood and making this blog helped me realize that Corona has a rich history with unique establishments such as small local business that I have visit and grew up over the years. The patterns that I realized was part of Corona’s visual appearance has made me realize of its unique distinction it has compared to other places where culture, advertisments, signs play a huge role in a linguistic setting. And how the unique themes and patterns within my community displayled the richness and symbolic cultural appearance that contributed to Corona’s enriched cultural landscape to the world.
