Persuasive Speech – Praneeth Bolgodu

Since the beginning of this class i feel i have actually grown as a public speaker, I no longer have that crack in my voice when i talk or that monotone stance. Looking at my most recent video to my first i see that i am much more comfortable and more enthusiastic as i speak to the audience. Thanks to my statistics and the car example i used i feel i did a pretty good job trying to convince my audience. I think my classmates did amazing with their presentation and we also were able to make longer speeches without getting nervous or pausing for too long. I feel this skill will help greatly not only with future classes in Baruch but for when I hopefully get a job in Law or even business, its definitely something  Ill be using for a long time

Informative Speech Reflection – Praneeth

Looking back at our presentation i feel that my group was very organized with the way we went about the speech. We organized the presentation by decade and explained each decade in detail and how it pertains to the next. We could have added more details and more information on the lives of citizens during those decades.
We used the visual aids by having them up as we explained the decade and then pointing to the picture and explaining the relevance to the decade itself. We could have used much more visual aids however.
I felt my eye contact was a little off in this presentation. I had a good amount of hand gestures but i felt i looked at my note cards and the powerpoint to many time.s. By the end of the semester i hope to be able to speak to the audience without constantly looking elsewhere, i got better in the sense of losing the nerves when i get up in front of everyone and my hand gestures.
The qualities that were most influential in keeping my attention was the use of very nice and interesting pictures, the speakers tone and if they were speaking extemporaneously or not., reading straight from the notes or powerpoint can make it feel like it wasn’t real and gets boring.

Personal Speech – Praneeth Bolgodu

This blog was very different from our assignment, the monologue, one because obviously one was my own words and the other was not and two because with the Personal speech i was able to be much more flexible and it was much more natural because it is something i experienced.  I was able to be more extemporaneous and i didn’t have to try to remember my lines because it was something that happened to me.

When i watched the video of my presentation, i saw for the first time how i speak in front of an audience, i saw how i use my hands and how i sound when im up. Watching it the first time it was funny to see myself and i was a pretty harsh critic. Although after taking in the information and watching it again, I feel i didnt do as bad as i thought. If i used more eye contact and talked to the entire room instead of one part it would have been better. Also, a breath here and there would have been very helpful when my voice was breaking up. I can tell by my voice i was kind of nervous but as i speak more that will go away. Overall, i feel watching myself really did help me in knowing how to do a better presentation for future assignments.

What my peers did that got me really engaged in their personal speech was when they got really into their story and got emotional. When the story got personal and they were passionate about what they experienced it got me very into it. Also the use of humor had me engaged with the speaker as well.

This picture represents my speech because going up i was very nervous, and i didnt think i was very well prepared and knowing that a video camera  was recording me added to the pressure, but during the speech i got a little more comfortable and although i stumbled here and there it looked like it went better than i thought it would.

A Coach’s Influence

– Praneeth Bolgodu

Public speaking is the art of speaking to a group of people in an attempt to inform, entertain, influence, or inspire and empower them. When most people think of public speaking they think of a speech given on stage like a valedictorian or one like the dean gave at convocation. Although, in my case the person who influenced me and anyone else who may have been on a sports team, is the coach.

When my basketball coach spoke to us the in locker room before a game, he spoke to us with such power and confidence in his voice. During his speech and after it was over we all felt a sense of courage, strength, and the desire to do our best. The way our coach used to do that and the way the coach in the video does that is by telling the team they’re the greatest, by asserting that no matter what a team must give it their all, and with the power and passion in the coach’s voice it impacts the team.  This video shows the relationship between the coach and the player in that the coach hypes them up and gets them ready for the big game and throughout his speech he involves them by saying ” Who am I” and the team who is empowered by their coach’s speech replies ” I am a Champion”
