Deported U.S. Veterans Immersive Exhibit Students Creative Works

Presented by the students in the U.S.-Mexico Border and Latino/a/x/e Literature in the U.S. courses

Description:

This exhibit sheds light on the experiences of U.S. veterans who have faced deportation. Through a series of cultural interventions such as podcasts, children’s books, poetry, newspapers, and more, visitors are invited to explore the lived realities of these veterans—individuals who served the United States and yet encountered the complex, often painful, reality of separation from it.

Each contribution, carefully created by students, reveals a piece of these veterans’ stories and serves as a testament to their resilience, identity, and sense of belonging. The exhibit offers a deeper understanding of the intersections of military service, cultural heritage, and border dynamics. It also emphasizes the importance of storytelling and academic inquiry in illuminating the challenges faced by deported veterans and their communities, fostering dialogue and reflection on issues of national identity, loyalty, and the impacts of U.S. immigration policy.
