Needing to pick ten songs out of thousands in my mind was extremely hard. I decided to show case just two sides of my musical preference, but in reality I enjoy almost all music. The only music I’m not too entirely fond of is country. The songs in my playlist portray house, deep house, progressive house, trance, dirty dutch, and swedish electro. More importantly, they showcase fast dance music versus slower relaxation music. The songs encase my personality which can drastically chance over the course of seconds. My personality allows me to change from just chilling with friends on a lawn to dancing and getting wild at a music festival.
Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of Andy Blueman noted as the king of uplifting trance. I haven’t included him in the playlist, because I mainly listen to his unfinished albums. The songs closer related to his music include Intense, Adagio For Strings, and Till the Sky Falls Down.
The songs DJ Ease My Mind, I Surrender, and Why Ask Why showcase softer music easier to the ears for someone that may want to transition in the broad genre of electronic dance music- coined EDM.
Although all of the music contains build up and drop when we get to Razz Up, Ain’t a Party and Tsunami this becomes more apparent and a vital part of the song. The purpose of these songs are to get a crowd wild. These songs accomplish the motive by building up a rhythm or bass line following a recognizable pattern. Then the pattern is sped up to a climax, and then is cut short and switched into a different section to accentuate the drastic differences.
After attending Electric Zoo two years in a row, I’ve felt that those days were quite possibly the best days of my life. I drifted away from my musical norms and was able to appreciate all the different types of EDM. The community expresses P.L.U.R. which stands for peace, love, unity, and respect. The vibes you receive from the crowd give off a certain state of euphoria I wish everyone could experience themselves. It feels amazing to be walking through a crowd of happy dancers and then to be approached to trade kandi (a type of bracelet thats trading while holding each others hand.) I can easily say that my entire personality changed after EDM surfaced my life in sophomore year of high-school.
