Hi my name is Mina, and I teach in the SEEK program here. This program was established by the New York State Assembly, and its goal is to provide more educational access to students in the New York public school system by helping to prepare them for entering college. SEEK began at City College in 1965 and is short for ‘Search for Education, Elevation and Knowledge’. It provides students who have not had much support in school with crucial services like counseling, financial help, and a community of teachers and students who are invested in being successful in college. Why do SEEK students need counseling? That’s a good question! If you want, you can read this position paper by SEEK’s founder, Leslie Berger, on how psychological counseling is needed by disadvantaged students to succeed in college.
