You look toward the south side of the quad and spot a bunch of people writing and drawing on their signs and banners. Someone is speaking too, but you can’t make out what is being said from this distance. You walk toward the group to look at some of the banners they are working on.
You start talking with the guy sitting next to you with the protest banner. He introduces himself as Stuart, and tells you that he is an organizer with the Anti Vietnam War Coalition, and also a professor at Brooklyn College.
Stuart Schaar

Stuart says that he is part of a faculty coalition that is in support of the students’ demands for open admissions. He tells you that he is very awed by the unity that the students have been showing, especially all of the students of color. You ask him more questions, and he explains more about his life, how he got to become a professor, an anti-war activist, and what he thinks about open admissions.
Joey Morales
Later on, Stuart tells you about a Brooklyn College student, Joey Morales, who had to cut his education short when he got drafted and sent to Vietnam. Through Joey’s letters, Stuart says he is learning a lot about what is going on in Vietnam, especially the discrimination that Joey has been facing as a Latino in the US military.
