Hi! I’m Khadija. Welcome to City College! As you see, I’m part of the Black and Puerto Rican Student Community here. We are a student organization all across CUNY, and we are very active especially here at City. We advocate for the inclusion and representation of Black and Puerto Rican students, especially since we know that it is so hard for students from our communities to get admitted into CUNY.
Have you read the Five Demands yet? One of our demands is to give more voice and power to students who were admitted through the SEEK program. We like this program and we think that it can get better by listening to its students and giving them power to make decisions about who works in the program. Have you heard about SEEK yet? I think they have a table across the hall where you can talk to them.
I’ve also been reading about how colleges exclude students of color. If you’d like to read more about how City College excludes Black and Puerto Rican high school graduates, and what we can do about it, then take a look at this amazing statement by Professor John Davis.
