On Thursday November 16, 2017, I went to a STARR workshop. It started at 5:30pm and ended at 6:30pm. I had music class, but luckily it ended ten minutes early, so I rushed to the workshop. The workshop was located on the second floor in room 190. It was about creating a LinkedIn. I got there ten minutes late, but it was okay, because it started later. When I walked in, a friendly guy greeted me and told me to sign in on the computer. I typed in my name and empl Id and sat in the front. After sitting there for about ten minutes waiting for more people to show up, we finally got started. The instructor was a volunteer and taught using a PowerPoint. The PowerPoint had a lot of slides with a lot of detailed information. It also had a lot of pictures and examples showing us exactly what he means. After explaining each point on the PowerPoint, he would pull up examples of someone’s LinkedIn and showed us how it was implemented. He also showed us his own LinkedIn profile and told us what he did and did not do. He would also ask us if we had any questions and usually someone would raise their hand to ask a question. He was very informative and patient. Our instructor also told us several tips to make out LinkedIn profile stand out. He also emphasized how important and crucial having a LinkedIn was for us. At the end of the workshop, I was tired and hungry, but I also learned a lot. I will definitely be making a LinkedIn in the near future.

On Thursday, I went to the Vietnamese Club. At first I did not know where any of the clubs were at, so I just keep walking past rooms. I heard a noisy room with a lot of laughter, so I went in. It turned out to be the United Sikh Club and they were doing a presentation on the religion. Everyone was really friendly. There was coffee and cookies being served as well. After, my friend messaged me to go to the ninth floor to the Vietnamese Club. I walked up numerous floors to finally find the room. When I walked in I saw a group of people in the middle of a game. Everyone was split into groups playing games together. It was really fun, because everyone was so involved. It was really inviting. When the games were over, we got Vietnamese sandwiches. I got a chicken one and it had picked carrots and cilantro in it. I was pretty good. Then some people volunteered to get pied in the face. They put whipped cream on plates and some people got plates of them and pied the volunteers. It was entertaining. I would definitely go again next week, but I would also like to also visit other clubs in the future.

On Thursday September 14, 2017, I went to an art gallery with my classmates. I left at 11:30am and arrived there at 12:30pm. It took me exactly one hour to get there. It was located in Chinatown on a quiet street. The art gallery was very unexpected, yet inspiring. Before arriving, I expected the art gallery to have numerous paintings with several rooms. However, it was simply a room with a wall covered with pictures of her life. Before the images, there are a few benches facing them and speakers on the left and right side of the room. The pictures were divided by her age, telling us a bit of her story. The gallery made me feel very peaceful. It is a very quiet room with speakers playing calm words, so I felt relaxed. Having that in the background, while I observed the photographs taped on the wall, it feels as if you were almost in the picture with Bernadette Mayer. In addition, knowing that Bernadette Mayer is currently 72, and displaying pictures of her life and herself during her teens and twenties, it reminded me to enjoy my moments. It reminded me to take pictures, so I can look back at them when I am 72, but not too many, so I don’t lose the moment. It was a very great experience for me. Continue reading “Blog Post #1(academic)”
