Writing Spaces – Readings on writing

  1. The myth which I would apply to would be five paragraph essay. It might be because, in high school we were more focused on this type of writing than others, so maybe I choose this because I’m used to it, and I feel it’s not complicated, it’s easy to understand and it could be used in any type of writing like informative, persuasive etc.
  2. I feel the college level research require more of an understanding or intellectual than the ordinary search. It requires more in depth of the subject. In high school, I feel, it was used easy and basic .
  3. For me, the definition of argument would be, a reason or set of reasons given with the aim of persuading others that an action or idea is right or wrong. I feel in college level of essay, an argument should be presented with supporting of your perspective and why.
  4.  The three types of academic writings are Closed writing, semi-open writing, and open writing. Closed writing essay requires the writer to support any of a claim between the two arguments and give reasons why. Semi open writing is a type of essay which allows the author to write about a topic given. And open writing essay allows the author to make any topic and find the information regarding that topic.
  5. The three characteristic of effective writing would be evidence, no emotions and rational. The writing should have a proof of why he/she is supporting that type of argument, and the writing should not show any emotions towards that topic because it can cause an effect of his/her writing and the writer should be rational to reader, it should be written clearly and concisely to the point so that the reader could understand the writer’s perspective of supporting ideas
  6. The author suggests that a first person could be appropriate when it is used in an argument which might require personal opinions and it can also be used in a personal essay
  7. It is a bad idea to use an “I” in any type of report, because it shows more of an personal opinion rather than facts of the supporting idea.

WOOLF’S A ROOM OF ONE’S OWN

d.chawla on Sep 20th 2015

In the book of ‘A room of one’s own’, it was describing the events which woolf was experiencing when she visited back her campus. She was reminiscing many moments and was going through many emotions. She observed that there is a change in environment in the campus.  She speculates about the change in the kind of conversation people had before the World War I, and the kind of poetry they wrote. Earlier, the peotry was always joy and love, but now the romantic views of many artists no longer seem possible in the post-war era. Now, the poetry have become so cruel and ferocious that readers can’t respond to them with the same recognition. “Hence the difficulty of modern poetry”, which comes as a kind of disillusionment
