I am writing an inward reflection. For my second portfolio project, my topic will be about how Korean beauty standards influenced people especially girls in society. Korean beauty has always been a very popular topic in our generation. Many people not only look up to their favorite kpop celebrities’ talents and music but also their looks and style. Due to the high popularity of Korean stars, many people look up to them, following their looks. I believe that following Korean beauty standards is a good thing because it is not wrong to look nice but it can be very dangerous, both physically and mentally. Korean beauty standards are strict. Tons of money is spent on plastic surgery and harsh diets are done, just to match up the strict beauty standards in society. It can lower self-confidence on looks and body shape, it can affect health conditions as well. People are influenced by Korean beauty advertisements and also mostly by social media. Social media can be a very “dangerous place” if people are judged by looks since so many people are using social media, there are a lot of judgments. Lastly, I think that Korean beauty affecting society will be an interesting topic to do research about because I believe that I am also somewhat influenced by Korean beauty.
I am writing a forward reflection. For our Layers research portfolio project, we were supposed to do an annotated bibliography for our topic. As for my topic, I believe that Kpop has influenced the beauty standards in society through social media. I would use my argument and counterargument in my research inquiry to advance an original, specific thesis by providing multiple research through various sources to support my argument. In other words, I believe that the increase of popularity in kpop has influenced some negative effects on how people view beauty in society. For example, kpop stars are required to match up the expectations of beauty in Korea, and due to that harsh diets and even plastic surgeries are done. Many fans tend to follow their looks and it can lead to insecurities. However, my counterargument is that kpop also have influenced a positive approach to beauty. For instance, having flawless skin from introducing K-beauty, Korean cosmetics, and skincare. Korea is well known for nice skin in which led fans to take good care of themselves and look to feel confident. Yet, I believe that people should be healthy both mentally and physically first.
I am writing an inward reflection. My topic for our second portfolio project, layers, is how K-pop influences beauty standards. I feel that people shouldn’t use k-pop as a beauty standard, that they need to follow. For my counterargument, I think that K-pop also influences young adults and even children of all ages to look after themselves more. For example, taking better care of their skin, learning more about makeup, and trying out new styles, which is a good thing. However, I believe that fans shouldn’t use kpop idols as beauty standards in which they need to follow because kpop idols went through a lot of hardships to reach their desired looks and it can be unhealthy both mentally and physically. All looks, styles, or shapes should be considered beautiful in their own way. In my opinion, beauty shouldn’t be based on anything.
