Recently, I went to the Rubin Museum for an art assignment. My art history teacher required for us to go to this museum to look at buddhism art and culture. At first I really didn’t want to go because it didn’t interest me at all. Before going to the museum, I thought the museum was free of charge or it was based on donations. I went to the museum during my break and it turns out I had to pay $10 to enter the damn museum. I was totally caught off guard by this because my art history professor told me it was supposed to be free. That $10 could’ve went to a nice Chipotle meal but it was whatever. I had to pay the $10 obviously and headed into the museum. It had a very calm vibe to it and mostly everyone minded their own business while looking at different paintings and sculptures. While looking at the paintings and they had a room for just buddhism, it was pretty cool. I never really knew about Buddhism itself so looking at all these artifacts and paintings kind of intrigued me. Additionally because my dad always wears a buddha jade necklace so it made me wonder about the religion. I proceeded to walk around the exhibit and take pictures of numerous of paintings and artifacts. I stayed at the museum for around 30 minutes or so cause I had to leave to go back to class. After visiting the Rubin, it was pretty cool but it would’ve been better without the $10 price tag just to get in. I’ve never had to go to a museum or place for a class or school in general so this was the first experience I had for going somewhere for class purposes.

Recently this Thursday, I attended a DSP (Delta Sigma Pi) general interest meeting. DSP is a fraternity that’s all about business and other fields related in that category. With my major being business management, I was interested in this fraternity because it can offer me more connections in the field I want to pursue. I walked into the event room on the 9th floor and everything was really welcoming. I really didn’t know what to expect about this fraternity.
Once I walked into the room, I was welcoming with a big smile of a person and a nice firm handshake. Next the people of the fraternity had a table with a whole bunch of food and they were all offering us free food. Free food was such a bonus because who doesn’t love free food? Especially if it’s good food. The atmosphere was kind of awkward at first because I didn’t really know anybody and I am usually not the person to make conversation. However, the fraternity people were very good at making sure everybody was talking to each other and asking us about what we thought about college and stuff. They were talking to me as if I knew them all throughout high school or something and I didn’t really mind that.
The event on 9/14/17 was Community Service Day. All of us made peanut butter & jelly sandwiches for the homeless. The experience was one to remember. I felt really comfortable in talking to people and meeting new people. Additionally, I knew that we were making sandwiches for a good cause. It felt good meeting new people and stepping out of my bubble for once.
