First-Year Seminar 2017 – DMB

BLOG POST 3

Last week my classmates and I took a visit to the Marketing Career Expo on the 3rd floor. Through this experience we gained lots of valuable knowledge and information. We learned a range of things from how to present yourself to others, to what we should be saying to make the best impression on people. This career experience set us up for success later in our lives with interviews and job opportunities. The people hosting this event exhibited all of the successful qualities they wanted to implement into us and it was evident that they were well endowed in their skills. After witnessing all of the people we presented ourselves to a plethora of job opportunities and companies that could hire us. Towards the closing of all of this opportunistic exposure event we pitched our last approaches then left to start another day with these newly acquired skills.

Islamic cultural center BLOGPOST

Earlier last month, a group of friends and I took a visit to the Islamic Cultural Center for an educational escapade. This riveting experience lasted a total of about 2 hours (as that was all the time we had in between classes). During this exciting adventure we accumulated an enormous new foundation of knowledge. From which building to enter the mosque through to strange candies we shouldn’t have eaten, we learned it all. Besides all of the fun and games we happened to have, we also happened to learn a great deal of artistic information as well. As a group we explored every section of this glorious religious center with the help of our tour guide(I don’t remember her name but she was a very nice lady). Our tour guide helped us observe the religious area where the people prayed as well as gave us information about the culture of the individuals that pray there. After traveling through the entire facility, our guide later left us alone to view the artwork and architecture in peace. Concluding our wonderful visit we thanked our guide and set off into the sunset together on our long trek back to the 6 train to come back to Baruch. All in all our experience at the Islamic cultural center was not only enriching to ourselves as intellectual individuals but it also helped out our grade in our Art History class and would not be something i would be opposed to doing again in the future.

Alpha Kappa Psi G.I.M

Alpha Kappa Psi is a force to be reckoned with. From their numerous business partnerships to their intelligent members, this fraternity has it all. Two weeks ago I decided to check out the fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi (or AKΨ for short) and it was easily one the best decisions I’ve mad thus far. During the meeting all meeting goers were briefed with an introduction to the frat and a short synopsis of what they were all about. After this short introduction all soon to be applicants were split up and allowed to engage in conversation with either the other participants within the group or our choice of “Brother” from AKΨ. After engaging in multiple surprisingly intelligent conversations with both other meeting goers and “Brothers”, I came to the conclusion that while a very nice club, this club was not for me during this moment in my freshman career at Baruch. This frat requires a high level of commitment and determination from it’s members. While achievable for me it was not in my best interest. With that being said I would still definitely recommend this fraternity to anyone who is interested in a business/partnership related experience during their time at Baruch.
