First-Year Seminar 2017 – DMB

Student Life – Blog Post 2

I recently joined a club/group at Baruch called Tamid – an interactive educational program that integrates business leadership principles with Israel’s economic landscape. I decided to join Tamid because I connect deeply to Israel, having spent a gap-year there last year. I’m interesting in learning more about Israels fast-pace moving economy and working hand in hand with start ups there. There are three parts to Tamid – education, fund/investment, and consulting. When you join Tamid, for the first semester, you are in the education program. It’s a program where they teach you basic business terms. Right now, we are doing a case competition against each other by splitting in teams of four. Our teams compete against each other and who ever wins in Baruch, competes against all the Tamid chapters (around 50 colleges). Who ever wins that round, gets to invest real money into their idea and into the company. For the case competition, you and your team need to complete a memo and a presentation to present to judges from financial companies. After your first semester in the education program, you then can decide whether to join the investment/fund group or the consulting group. In the investment group, teams conduct equity research and manage a stock portfolio. In the consulting group, student-led consulting teams advise Israeli companies on the solutions to important business problems. I’m excited to have the opportunity to be in Tamid, and I’m still thinking about with team to join after my semester of education. (I forgot to take a picture when I was there, but have a conformation email that I’m in the club)
