Last Tuesday I went to the Starr Career Development Center. I went there to schedule an appointment for working on the resume. Firstly, the lady that works there gave me the paper where it says how schedule an Online Appointment. So I took my computer logged in and then found out that the dates that they have don’t work out for me, so I asked are there any other hours that I can come and she said that later that day between 3:00pm and 4:30pm they have walk-in hours for Brief Consultations. I came back later and went inside for my brief consultation. I brought my kind of resume that I made few days before that. I was very unsure what am I suppose to write down and what am I not suppose to. I was confused mainly because I don’t have much of experience because I didn’t have time to work in high school and I just started college. She explained to me that there are several types of resumes depending on what are you applying for. Also she told me that there are few information that must be included in every resume which are the contact information, dates and locations, education, experience and skills. She also gave me some advice what should I delete from the resume that I wrote and what to keep. She pointed out for me some other categories that I might add into my resume if I can fill them with my achievements. All in all I think that this was very rewarding experience because they definitely helped me with my starting resume. I will go there few more times for sure, and I am very glad that we have this opportunity at school, to get someone to help us with these stuff. I would highly recommend everyone to go there and visit.
