A Blank Canvas             Every single human being is a blank canvas that gets filled with many variations of colors on every single angle. This blank canvas has no limitations, the canvas is drawn on till the end of time by thyself or others. Everyone grows up in a slightly altered environment, not a single person is raised or has lived the same life as another, unless they were raised in a lab but even then it’s questionable. Now to explain further the idea of each person symbolizing a blank canvas we will have to analyze the noun, sonder. What is sonder? John Koenig coined the term in his Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, a collection of invented words to describe complex emotions that do not have a common name. The realization that each passerby has a life as complex as one's own, with their own thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It is a humbling and inspiring realization that can help us feel more connected to others and our surroundings.              The instant you see and think about anyone is the time when you start to paint the canvas. However this isn’t the real canvas, it’s the first perception of what you think that person's canvas looks like, a first impression if you will. Yet those people already have a canvas with many colors on who they are and everything else they’ve been through. Everyone has so many different perspectives and opinions about everyone. When you meet someone for the first time, you restart that canvas and how you fill it is completely up to you. You can choose what colors you want on you, even for example, if you see someone who’s outfit you like, go up and tell them. That’s the start of painting your  1 own canvas for them. You never know who you will meet, what it will bring you or what it will lead to. One conversation can start an entire life altering butterfly effect that you will never even know about. Find those people who’s canvas you want to fill and have your fill by, don’t be afraid, direct your own life.             Unfortunately life isn’t exactly fair and the environment has a huge effect on everyone’s upbringing. However, make the best of it. Don’t pass up on opportunities, find things or people who make you happy. Avoid things that you don’t enjoy and those who make you dissatisfied. Try to have control over every decision you make. No one truly cares, most people are way too self conscious, to truly care about others. Uncomfortable moments in your life will only later on reflect as positives, because eventually that agonizing feeling will end and all you can do is learn or daze on it. Being yourself is the best you can do, as that will only attract things that are meant for you. The Universe is rewarding, if you truly desire and work for something, you will get it. Just being truly consistent and passionate about something puts you above so many people in terms of just general happiness and achievement. Finding true passion is difficult, there are so many limitations and rules that are put upon us from the moment we are born. A passion of mine that I would like to achieve is to travel the world and explore cultures for a living. Was I put in the position to just get it? No, but I will try to do everything that’s in the grasp of my power to attain it. Everyone finds passions at different ages, they could even change throughout the years. Some people might know what they want from the moment they gain consciousness but others might not till they have their own kids. One way to think about passion is just to think to yourself what am I better than others at, take the people that are close to you  2 and determine what you are better at than them, what you can teach them and talk to them about for hours. Find those things and seek other’s with the same goals, seek a better future.                     These are conclusions that I’ve come to in the last few months. I’ve learned that if I want something, I should go out and get it. Things will come to you, but only if you make the right decisions. One recent example from my life was when I was in class and was contemplating talking to the girl not too far for me. I almost talked myself out of it but ended up doing it. Now we are friends and now we both have added a color to our canvases, rather than have kept them a blank slate. I’ve used this to be more confident and charismatic, if I act how I want people to see me, that’s how they will see me. At the beginning of the year I had a pretty big contemplation, as I didn’t know if I should join the college’s soccer team as it was something that has practically defined me and has been a big color of my canvas my whole life. For the better or the worse, I chose not to join for various reasons, but then I didn’t have that definition that I used to, I couldn’t just tell people I am on the soccer team to paint a color. I was confused, I didn’t know what my “thing” even was. I still haven’t completely made up my mind on what I really want to pursue, but I am definitely more suited and confident in finding it then I was at the start of the year.  3
