Title | How has Social Media Made Me More Aware of Important Issues |
Content | Currently I keep abreast of all issues affecting the the country on Social Media. We are now in the election season and I follow both candidates on their Twitter and Facebook page. I follow Trumps tweets on immigration, border control and the economy. I follow Hillary a lot on all the issues especially her plans for sustainable environment. These are current issues that affects us as voters. I was shocked when Trump said he would remove billions in funding towards climate change. I was equally shocked on his pronouncement on Roe versus wade. Some of these issues are critical to us as females and will sway our votes for either candidate against or in favor of.
Many pollsters has postulated that Social Media has significant impacted the election. It was because of the number of followers that Donald Trump had on Twitter why he decided to launch his campaign for President.
In a recent discussion between my friend who is a journalist she said to me, Careen if you want a story to make the news its easier to tweet and tag the various media houses. I wholeheartedly agree with her because even though I find most people use Facebook its faster to get news stories out though tweets.
Professors states that most of us in class are already ardent bloggers and Twitter users and she is so correct because I tweet and blog a lot. It is Social Media that I use to stay current with all the issues so I can effectively Tweet and Blog for the Honorable Portia Simpson Miller. Most breaking news comes on social media first these days before hitting mainstream media. Matter of fact the minute the stories hit social media they get a number of comments, likes and re-tweets. For me personally I follow most of the major news outlets on twitter so I can quickly re-tweet the issues on my wall. I have a strong following of persons who also depend on me for the news in a balanced fashion and so when the issues come up I post on them. When I make a post I sometimes get over a 100 likes and lots of comments. Sometimes I do not follow the comments as it would take a lot of time. The important thing for me is that the issue is out their, its relevant and its current.
Since using Social Media I have cut my paid subscription to the media outlets as I am still kept aware of the issues by following the media outlets so at the end of the day it not only keeps me aware but have also helped to save me some funds. |
